Federal judge orders sex-reassignment surgery for Mass. prisoner
In the possible first such ruling in the U.S., a federal judge has ordered sex reassignment surgery for a prisoner, finding that denying the surgery violated his Eighth Amendment right to "the only adequate treatment" for his gender identity disorder. The prisoner is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for murdering his wife.
