Roy Ginsburg wants to put a stop to rumors that he left Dorsey & Whitney because Dorsey had a bad year in 2012, as recently reported by the Star Tribune.
That was a “variable” but not the motivating factor, he said. Ginsburg is now on his second day of working at the national law firm, which has been scooping up Twin Cities lawyers since its arrival here in 2009.
He was recruited to Barnes by lawyers there, including some former Dorsey lawyers. After checking things out, he determined that Barnes was (1) extremely well managed; (2) very democratic; (3) transparent in sharing information with partners and (4) he liked what they were doing in Minneapolis.
“I gave Barnes higher scores on the first three than Dorsey,” he said.
Obviously Dorsey has some financial challenges, Ginsburg said, and it tried to cut its way to profitability. “Cutting costs meant getting rid of lawyers, and I’m not sure that’s right.”
