The FTC has cleared the $1.9 billion merger between Universal Music Group and EMI Recorded Music without conditions, determining that the combination of the world's first- and fourth-largest music companies would not substantially lessen competition. European Union regulators also approved the deal, but they required Universal to sell some major assets.
