Governor appoints Lee to circuit judgeship

Gov. Bob McDonnell has appointed Hopewell lawyer Nathan C. Lee to an unfilled vacancy on the 6^th Circuit bench.

Lee will assume the position opened by the January retirement of Judge Samuel T. Campbell. During the 2012 General Assembly, the House nominated Lee for the seat, but the Senate did not name a candidate.

“Nathan has had a long legal career handling a broad array of both civil and criminal cases.  He has been active in his community and with the Bar,” McDonnell said in a prepared statement.

Lee’s appointment by the governor comes nearly a month after McDonnell made appointments to two other vacant circuit court judgeships. “The governor was not ready to fill the seat at the earlier date, but did not want to hold up the other appointments while finalizing a decision on the 6^th Circuit,” said a McDonnell spokesman.

A native of Hopewell, Lee has practiced law for 29 years, according to McDonnell’s news release.  Lee has run a private practice for the last 18 years.  He has served as a substitute judge for the last 20 months.
